Exceptional

It seems our Ryan is exceptional, or at least an exception.  He had a rough night last night.  He woke up every couple hours from the itching.  Today I called the nurse to see if there was something better than Benadryl for some relief.  She said it was really rare for kids over four to get hand, foot, and mouth, though there are always exceptions…and she thought he should come in just to check him out.  Good thing it’s only a thirty minute drive…Anywho, the doctor said there is a stronger strain going around and Ryan must have that.  He said he wished he had a med student around to see him.  He has sores on his hands, feet, mouth, legs, and in his nose and ears.  He seems to be feeling better this afternoon and is driving me nuts around the house.  He had to miss a game last night and practice today.  I’m pretty sure he wasn’t upset about missing piano.  The doctor thinks he is past the contagious stage, but agreed parents would probably freak out if he was touching the same piano their kid was about to play.  It looks like the sores on his mouth are darker today, so hopefully he is on the better side of things.  Erik’s fever finally broke.  He took a long nap today.  Still no sign of sores, but he hasn’t been much of an eater today.
