So on Monday Ryan and I had a lengthy allergy appointment.  Since he has done very well with eating eggs baked into muffins (every day for the last four months) we decided to try adding powdered milk to the muffins.  Like last time, he had to have a skin test and once he passed that (only a small reaction to one muffin) he had a portion of a muffin every 20 minutes for 3 HOURS.  Since he had that small reaction at the beginning, the doctor thought he should wait an extra hour after the test before our consultation.  He passed though!  Which is nice since we sat in a small little room for over 5 hours.  And now he gets to eat 2 muffins every day for the next year…That about made us both cry.  We are going to try some other things as well.  As long as the milk/cheese is baked at 350 or more for at least 15 min. he can try it.  Hopefully this will speed up things for him.  The allergist was so sure that he would be able to eat eggs and dairy by the time he was 5.  Now we are hoping by age 10…

Ryan’s class is studying the Greeks right now.  Today I went in to help with the Olympics.  The teacher asked me to do an obstacle course for them.  I asked Harvey to help me think of what to have them do.  Somehow I ended up needing Nerf guns.  I have quite a list of why we love our private school.  Added to the list:  Nerf guns are allowed for shooting targets during the Olympics!  That one is just under allowing my kindergartener to bring a Lego that ‘shoots’ a Lego gun from the fighter jet to show and tell.  Oh the common sense!  It’s so refreshing.

Big Girl Bed

While the kids were at Gramma’s I decided it was time to move our furniture and all of the boxes for the bathroom out of Megan’s room.  Reality is that it is going to be a while before Harvey gets all of the fixtures into the bathroom and the chaos that her room had become was driving me crazy.  It was impossible for her to play in there and hard to get to my underwear.  That meant I could also finally get the toddler bed out of my room.  We moved it in for Erik while Harvey’s mom was here…in June.  That’s how we work around here!  I took the kid-free opportunity to go through her closet and organize everything.  It looks great now and she is so thrilled to have her big girl bed and her room back.  She slept there last night and did great.  I was worried about her getting in and out of it, but she really wants to sleep in it so she stayed in.

Baby, it’s cold inside

So our heater broke four days ago.  Fortunately, we are polar vortex free around here, but it has been a little chilly for me.  We have been having lots of fires to warm us up.  On Wednesday night Harvey decided to just stay at work and sleep since he was going to be so late getting home.  Ryan all of a sudden became the man of the house.  He went outside and brought in the firewood and helped me get the fire going.  I think he liked being manly because he talked Harvey into letting him do the whole thing last night.  Since we have had the week off from school, Ryan and I have stayed up late reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.  As we sat by the fire he said it reminded him of Grandma with ATV’s house because we were reading by the fire.  I’m pretty sure Harvey won’t be sleeping at work again.  His new office has no windows so it got really hot and then when the workers came in around three they pumped up the mariachi music.  Lesson: Always come home to your wife! : )

So ALL THREE kids are spending the night at Gramma’s!  How happy are we!!  We had a nice dinner and now Harvey is watching the Olympics.  I’m off to enjoy the quiet!

Cute, sweet, and a little girly

Spring training has started.

This is the Valentine’s Day card that Harvey got me.  Cute, sweet, a little girly…

This is the Valentine’s Day card I got Harvey:Image00009

Also cute, sweet, and yes…a little girly.

Image00010

Are we cute or what?  Unfortunately for Harvey, the 6 rows of cards proved too much for me and I went for the one right there in front of me.  Isn’t that funny though, that with all of the cards in Target we got the same one!   Probably has nothing to do with us both being short.

Love is in the air

Ryan has become my holiday helper.  After the little ones went to bed, he stayed up to help me set the Valentine’s Day table.  At about 8:30 he thought a scavenger hunt would be fun for them.  Ummm, Mommy was way to tired to even think about that, so Ryan made a short one himself.  He had them in the fridge and in their rooms.  They ended up back at the table where he had hidden something under their plates.  They loved it.  We decided we would do it again next year, but start planning way earlier than 8:30.  Image00001 Sharpies are WAY popular around here.

Image00009 Bacon is our family’s love language.

Image00017 Shockingly, all three had their light sabers taken away today…and yet we keep buying this stuff.

Image00021 So I decided to do a space unit with Erik in November.  We sort of finished in January.  I took it down today.  That is how things are swinging around here.  Someone, about as tall as the bottom black constellation, ate the corner of it…glue and all.  “Someone” says the toothpick in her crib was planted.

Image00022 Erik decided this one was quite despicable!

Now Presenting…

Today was Erik’s first class presentation.  They are studying hibernation.  He did a report on garter snakes.  He was really excited about getting up in front of the class.  I was a little surprised.  He is pretty quiet in class and in general.  He practiced and practiced.  I’m going to see if I can get Harvey to put it up on the blog.  He was really cute.

Image00066

It was a full day at school.  After the presentations they had a “Fun Day.”  They had an hour of outdoor games for the kids and then a pizza lunch.  After that the kindergarteners celebrated their 100th day.  Since we are homeschooling we aren’t all on the exact same day of being in school, but since I put it all together and we have been literally counting down the days for like…a hundred days, we went with ours.  I spent a LOT of time putting together several cute activities.  Erik has been looking forward to this since Ryan’s party.

The Coach

Ryan loves to coach the siblings.  They played until it was dark.  They love the days getting longer…so do I!

Preach It Baby

When Ryan was four, his preschool teacher told me he was going to be a pastor.  She said he was always trying to give applications before she finished the Bible story.  It looks like she may be right.

.1%

Today we set out to find a marble top for our bathroom vanity.  Since it is not a big piece, we really wanted a remnant since there really isn’t another place to use any leftover from a large slab (not to mention the cost difference.)  The first place had nothing for us.  After we went to the second place, we realized that getting a thicker piece was going to be difficult.  We headed north to a fancier showroom.  Pretty quickly we found a really nice marble remnant.  The sales lady also said that we would need to laminate two pieces to get the thickness we wanted, adding it was the only way to get it 99.9% of the time.  Since we really thought it was pretty, I decided to go ahead, against every indecisive nerve in my body, and buy it rather than just put it on hold.  The gal sent us to their most recommended fabricator down the street.  NOT impressed.  The guy who does the work was nasty on the phone while we stood there waiting and then chewed out an employee.  The receptionist took us to the warehouse because it was so awkward.  Bigger problem was that the samples were terrible.  We really don’t want an obvious seem across the front of the top.  So we left and went to another recommendation.  We told him what we wanted done to the stone we had just bought and I mentioned that originally we had wanted a thicker stone.  He said, “I have that right here.”  And he took us back through his warehouse to a beautiful remnant just the thickness we wanted…I feel like we hit the lottery seeing as we found the .1% marble remnant (unless that 99.9% was a little off.)  Anywho, we went back to where we bought the stone and I told her our experience was less than stellar.  She was ‘shocked.’  And guess who walked by as we were talking…the guy from the fabricator store down the street.  So maybe not the best fabricator…just the closest for free delivery.  We are happy with what we got though and it got even better…we picked up Erik from his friend’s house and had lunch at Chik-Fil-A!  I haven’t been to one in about 18 years.  It was good and I gave my germaphobia  a short break and let the kids play on the indoor climbing area.  Still a little sick about that since our carpool buddy told me on the way home today about a kid taking off his clothes on the slide at that store.

Nevermind, I have a countertop!

Image00018 Ryan did his state report on Thursday.  Harvey and I could not figure out why he picked Utah, and then Ryan told us it was because it was only four letters and he had to write a big title on the board…We actually learned a lot though.  It is a really beautiful state.  He had to act like a tourism rep and ‘sell’ his state.  He brought props and everyone loved that.  He put on ski goggles to talk about the resorts, a large dinosaur for the big museum…it was cute.  His school does A LOT of presentations.  This week the science fair project started.  His will be gross, but I think the kids will love it.

Got Shower?

It really happened!  I got to take a shower in my master bathroom.  It was great.  Clean, spacious, and private.  No pictures.  You’re welcome.

 IMG_4193

Ryan got to take the very first bath in the new tub.  He has been dreaming of this for six years…which is quite a long time when you are eight.

Eating the moon

We finally finished our space unit.  It’s hard to do a lot since we have Erik’s school work from his other school.  What better way to end, but by learning about the moon and having a taste of it?

Soon, and very soon!

Look what’s in!  And they work!  They were a little tougher to get in than most…but that is not surprising in this bathroom.  We don’t have a shower curtain bar in yet, so I’ll have to put up a temporary one.  I get to use it tomorrow!  Next, Harvey is going to start on the closet.  As you can see off to the left, it needs some work.  So that is one less box in Megan’s room.  Once we get the sconces, medicine cabinet and mirrors (and our two dressers) out of her room, I can move this toddler bed out of my room.  It has become quite the storage container at the foot of my bed!  There is a chance this may get done before the 7 year mark!
