A day at the park

2012-04-29_001 Yesterday was Little League Day with the Giants.  Harvey and Ryan left at 8am for pregame fun.  They had to leave early because Harvey and I had a dinner to go to, but still got home at 5pm.  It was a long baseball day, but I’ve been told it was worth it.  Ryan had a stomach ache when he got home.  After he listed everything he ate and drank at the park I had a pretty good idea why.

Finally feels like baseball season

Today was a warm, sunny day.  No rain in the forecast.  It finally feels like it’s time for baseball.

Fine Motoring

It is a never ending quest to find things for Erik to do while Ryan and I do school.  He really likes to write letters and draw so I thought a little fine motor play would be a good idea.

Writer’s Fort

Because you can’t write about an Amazon adventure at the kitchen table:

Today Ryan had his first piano concert.  All of the kids played two songs.  The teacher asked for a volunteer.  Only one kid’s hand shot up.  As a teacher, I couldn’t have been prouder.  I am so glad he was happy to do it and did a great job.

Doctors

Whew!  I left home at 12:40 to pick Ryan up at school for his doctor appointments and we pulled in the driveway at 5:30.  Since his doctors are about 25 minutes away I like to do the pediatrician and allergist on the same day.  We used to live two minutes from the hospital.  That was convenient.  I just like the doctors so much and love that they sit back and just talk to us.  I always feel like all of my answerable questions get answered.  So I keep driving all the way up there.  I may have to revisit that when we have three.  Anywho, the allergist decided to do a blood test on Ryan since it’s been many years since we did one.  That was a long wait in the lab.  We’ll find out in a couple of days if anything has changed with his allergies and if he will do a skin test too.  My box of egg substitute is almost finished.  I looked at the familiar box in the grocery store yesterday and decided to hold off…just in case I already have my last box.  Nothing changes for us if he hasn’t outgrown them, but it would be so fun for him.  On the way home he asked if we could pray about it.  So we did.  And then we got a well-deserved smoothie.

Superman

2012-04-23_002Mommy, can you make me Superman with my blankie?”

I have always loved little boys ‘flying’ through the supermarket and Target in their fabulous capes.  Ryan was never a cape kind of guy.  When we were given a Superman costume a few years ago I made him put it on so I could at least have a picture.  Even though we have never had a book or movie with any superhero in our house, we have a little superhero these days.  I may get that Target photo after all.

2012-04-23_004  A few years ago Ryan was so crazy about his cousin’s carwash that I got him one for Christmas.  The belt broke a while ago and Erik could not have been sicker about it.  Well, our cousin is on the brink of junior highdom and we inherited his old one.  A little switcherooing and we are back in business.

From the other room I just heard: “Erik that is NOT a bat and that’s not a ball.  If I see that again…” missed the consequence.  Can’t wait to find out more!

We’re back!

I guess I had an unintended blog vacation.  It just wasn’t a picture-taking kind of week.

It’s taken about two months, but I finally got September finished for Ryan’s kindergarten book…should be done by third grade.  Actually, it should start to go a little faster now that I have a better handle on this new program and since September was my full of energy and ideas month.  Each following month has far fewer pictures.  He’s going to wonder if we even did school in May.

2012-04-21_001 Uh-oh!

2012-04-21_007 New guns.  This weekend was beautiful.  It felt great to be hot!

It’s Out!

Ryan woke up this morning without his tooth.  Harvey found it in his bed.  On to the next one…

Giants, Legos, and Camo

Those three words sum up our seven year old’s passions right now.  Last night we had a family party for his birthday.  2012-04-14_003

2012-04-14_019 Ryan was in charge of decorating.

2012-04-14_020 Everyone else got to have this delicious egg and dairy-full cake.  While we were all enjoying it Ryan came over a little teary and said, “I don’t like my cake.”  Darn allergies!

2012-04-14_025 His special aunties made up a scavenger hunt for him to find his presents:

SEVEN

Our baby is seven!  Being Ryan’s mom is better than I ever imagined being a mom would be.  He is truly a great kid.  Since we are on Easter break he got to have a very fun day at home.  He had a nice breakfast, opened a couple of presents, built a new Lego, watched the Giants win their home opener, play basketball with his dad, go to his favorite restaurant, have ice cream and open the rest of his presents.  Seven…off to a good start!

So yesterday I asked Ryan what he would like for dinner on his birthday (so I could go to the store and buy ingredients for one of the many delicious meals I make) and he said:

Tooth update:

He really gave it a go today.  I thought at 9pm he was going to get it out but alas, no tooth!   He is still wiggling in his bed as I type.  I’ll be shocked if he falls asleep with it still hanging there.
