Pumpkin Fun

We had a great day at the pumpkin farm.  I’m completely exhausted and Harv is ready for bed so I’ll put up the pictures tomorrow.  We also got a few of Kimmy today.  I hope they send me at least one that’s not blurry one of these times.

Happy Birthday Part 2

We had a great day.  I slept late so we missed church but I felt way better.  For the first time I decided to leave my camera home instead of taking it to Ryan’s game.  Of course that meant he got to play catcher, his dream, today.    Fortunately, another parent who is well aware of Ryan’s love of the position and of Buster Posey was happy to get some pictures for us.  Ryan could not have been happier.  I’m not sure he ever caught a ball, but the crowd went crazy when he threw off his mask to try and catch a foul ball.  He got hit on the mask by one of the batters, which is why I hate the position.  He loved it.

Our little celebration

2011-10-09_028

As I was getting things ready Ryan asked if each of us could pray for Kimmy before we had cake.  He is so excited about her.  Ryan and Erik chose the penguin for her.  Erik is sick about not playing with it right now.

I had to get this one because Kimmy is my little elephant.  It will be close to a two year ‘gestation’ by the time we get her home.

Happy Birthday Kimmy

Erik came in from the backyard yelling, “Mommy, take my picture!”  Good call!

Happy Birthday Kimmy!

Well, as we speak, or at least as I type, our baby girl is celebrating her first birthday in Korea.  I know that it will be a special event with her foster family.  I hope we get pictures!  We went out to dinner.  We went to our favorite Japanese/Korean restaurant.  I would have taken a picture but that would have meant I would have had to at least comb my hair.  We’ll celebrate tomorrow.  It got too complicated worrying about celebrating when she is celebrating in Korea or when it’s the 9th here…but we’re going big when she gets home! : )

Yesterday Erik had a runny nose all day.  By evening I was sneezing every few minutes and getting a headache.  He woke up happy as a clam and hasn’t needed to even wipe his nose today.  I woke up a mess.  My head hurt, my ears hurt and my teeth hurt, not to mention my joints.  Anywho, I’m almost done with my Theraflu so I’ll share what we are doing for Kimmy tomorrow.  Nothing big or fancy, but special for us.  Happy Birthday Baby!

It’s All Fun and Games

It's been a rainy day. We had lots of fun catching butterflies and doing puzzles. I'm a huge fan of puzzles for kids. It's fun to watch them learn to look for colors and shapes to put them together.

So we heard from our mechanic. I don't think I mentioned that...but I wouldn't be surprised if I wrote an entire post about it already. Did I tell you about catching butterflies? The mechanic's recommendation, in case I didn't tell you and you care to know, is for us to buy a new car now since it is going to take him a LONG time to put the 200 parts together on my car. We are going to need a new car at some point since I'm over 190,000 miles at this point, but I hope we can keep this one (since it's going to cost as much as a new car to fix) too. I do see some benefits to having an older car. My kids know how to use a key to unlock a door, they know how to open a door all by themselves, they know what a cassette tape is, and they don't expect the heated air or air conditioning to reach them for at least ten minutes. I may have to ease them into the luxuries of 21st century car.

City Planning

Keeping Erik busy is definitely the hardest part of homeschooling for me.  Today he played with beans for a good chunk of time.  Of course Ryan could barely wait for a break so he could join in.  Erik had done a pretty good job of keeping the beans on or near the tray…2011-10-05_003

2011-10-05_005then came Ryan.

Cleaning up was not nearly as fun for him.

2011-10-05_006

We finally started some geography.  I decided to let Ryan try an old map program I’ve had for a long time.  He loved it!  He actually has some ‘city planner’ genes in him.

2011-10-05_012  I was super pleased with how well Ryan did all by himself.  He showed Harvey his map and explained what everything was and his thinking process about EVERYTHING.  A little while later I came out of the bedroom and Harv was teaching him how to do SimCity…with a volcano erupting near the town of course.  So we’ll see if Ryan can go back to the old Map Machine!

Reactions

Fall ball has turned out to be great for Ryan.  I knew he would like it, but wasn’t sure if it would be the right level for him.  He has some great coaches and he’s learning a lot.  I’ve enjoyed seeing other families that we know too.
