The Tree

So Tuesday before lunch is the time to get a tree!  I failed in beating my record from last year, but really, how do you beat picking the first tree you look at?  I managed to choose tree number 4.  I think it’s pretty cute.  It’s a little big for the spot but I DID NOT want Harvey to move the fish tank so the tree is going to have a little more front and center action this year.

Unfortunately I’m in charge of putting the lights on.  I’m hoping some day Harvey will volunteer…

It’s That Time of the Year

The decorations are making their way in…

2010-11-29_005 Tomorrow we’re going to get our tree.  I’m not sure how I’m going to beat last year’s record but if it’s possible to pick a tree in under 3 min. I’m for it!

Reality:

What on earth our we going to do with 30+ crayfish?  They are fun to watch but now they are too big for the fish to eat.  A few have been eaten by their siblings, but I think they are slowing down in the sibling rivalry thing.

Erik went on the potty twice tonight.  I’m starting to wonder if there might be something to this.  I think the power of the candy corn could be strong enough.

Thankful

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.  We’re so thankful I am feeling so much better.  It has made such an enormous difference around here.  We went to my brother’s for Thanksgiving dinner and they did everything!  I didn’t see my kids for several hours, ate a delicious meal and enjoyed a couple classes of wine…enough said!

For the first time since September I worked outside.  I love working in the yard so it felt great to be out there, but WHOA! did we have work to do!

2010-11-25_002 This is Harvey’s new net system.  It’s working great!  Never has a man spent more time or money mastering oak trees and their mess.

Yep, this is Erik on the potty.  He went number 2 and pee pee for the second time.

So I just had one small project for Harvey over the weekend…We bought a new faucet for the kitchen about three months ago and I asked if he would put it in.  We have the hardest water on earth and nothing could clean it.  I know, it’s really disgusting.  It was supposed to be a quick project but as usual, the previous owner did a number on it.  They glued it into a space that was too small because of course the sink was placed too far back into the counter to have the proper space for it.

2010-11-27_002 It was at this point that Harvey said he couldn’t get it out…hmmmmmmmm!  So he came back in from the garage with an electric saw…

We’re used to ridiculous projects done by the previous owners like:

2007-08-30_006 2007-08-21_010 yes, this was bolted in with about 10 screws

But this was annoying:

Yes, this is a blow torch.

2010-11-28_013 But after two days I now have my lovely $35 faucet.  I couldn’t bear to spend anymore since I have another kitchen project I haven’t told Harvey about yet! : )

Look who figured out that the vacuum hose is a whole lot like a fireman’s hose!

Today was a science day.  We learned how to make an egg float.  Very fun!

Not to be outdone!

WooHoo!

Erik just went pee pee on the potty for the first time!  No, we’re not potty training, but he has wanted to sit on the potty before his shower every night for a while.  After his shower tonight I was drying him and he said, “pee pee” so I rushed him in and sure enough.  I, of course, did the ‘Pee Pee’ dance and gave him a piece of candy.  It may not happen again for a long time but I’m going to go ahead and hope he’s fully trained now!

Memories: Old and New

2010-11-20_001 This is the cute little cottage we stayed in.  It was just perfect for our get-together.  It was just of blocks from the beach and the shops.

This was the same weather we had on our last trip to San Diego!  We were happy to have some breaks from the rain though.  The only bummer was that one friend couldn’t join us.

Home!

All of the boys are asleep.  I had a fabulous weekend.  It has been a long time since I’ve laughed until I cried (other than that particular Office episode that almost killed me.)  Pictures tomorrow.  And there will be more after that because never will this much time go by again without these girls in my life!  Miss you gals already.

A Pilgrim and a Stowaway

We have been talking a lot about Thanksgiving this week.  This is one of the great things about homeschooling.  Our friends’ son went to our school last year and never learned about anything other than turkeys.  We are covering it all…at a K level, and we can be thankful to God!

2010-11-18_012 Why the long face?

We can’t do his wife until we get through another roll of toilet paper.

Apparently Erik doesn’t like Pilgrims

2010-11-18_018

I am going to San Diego for the weekend to see some college roommates.  I haven’t seen them in 20 years!  (Yes, I went to college at 12.)  Erik decided to come with me. :)

Another Climber

Erik has been working on this for a while but yesterday he mastered it on his own:
