We had a fun first day. We got to the park early so we had time to play a little and set up before the other families arrived. Daddy made us some tri-tip for dinner and it was delicious. Then, a drip, and another drip,…It started to rain with absolutely no regard for the weather report that did not forecast rain! We quickly threw things in the car. It lasted long enough to soak our chairs but was over rather soon. Harv went to bed early with the boys and I enjoyed a quiet and relaxing conversation around the campfire with our friends. Despite the relative calmness I knew the dark hours of the night were still ahead (mothers know these things.)
I don’t know what time things began to fall apart but I am guessing around 11 pm. Erik woke up and started crying. We would settle him down a bit for a while but he just wouldn’t go to sleep and would start crying all over again. It was starting to get light and the little birdies were beginning to sing (irritating when you’ve been up all night by the way) when he finally fell asleep. Harv and I got a couple of hours sleep total. Ryan of course slept through almost all of Erik’s crying. As soon as Harv sat up in the morning I said, “Erik is sleeping in his own bed tonight!” So after dinner he and Erik drove home. The campers next to our site left after breakfast?! When Harv and Erik returned in the morning for breakfast they both had huge grins. Nothing like a warm shower and a good night’s sleep!
Didn’t seem too bothered about keeping his parents and the rest of the campers up most of the night.
Can you see our little friend?
We took a really nice walk through the park. No that’s not Erik in the stroller. I didn’t even bring the stroller! Ryan is crazy about our friend’s little boy and pushed him as much as he could.
After we got back from our walk I was ready for a warm shower. I got the scoop from another camper that the showers were not hot but warm and worth it. I brought my bag of quarters and headed up. I peaked in the first shower room and saw that the coin slot was right next to the shower head. I wouldn’t even have to move to keep the water flowing! I went ahead and checked out another one just to be sure I was getting the best one. No good…you had to walk away from the shower head and put the coins in on the wall behind the shower. So I went back to the first shower. I got undressed and started to put the coin in when I finally realized that the shower head was about four feet up. (Yes, I am taller than four feet!) It was the handicapped shower! So I started freezing, and now I was totally freezing, but I wasn’t wasting quarters and warm water on 3/4 of an experience. So I got dressed again, repacked my bag and went back to stall number two. The shower wasn’t warm…it was HOT and fabulous! The rain, the crying, the lack of sleep…gone! New woman…ready to camp!
Ryan’s favorite part of camping!
