.1%

Today we set out to find a marble top for our bathroom vanity.  Since it is not a big piece, we really wanted a remnant since there really isn’t another place to use any leftover from a large slab (not to mention the cost difference.)  The first place had nothing for us.  After we went to the second place, we realized that getting a thicker piece was going to be difficult.  We headed north to a fancier showroom.  Pretty quickly we found a really nice marble remnant.  The sales lady also said that we would need to laminate two pieces to get the thickness we wanted, adding it was the only way to get it 99.9% of the time.  Since we really thought it was pretty, I decided to go ahead, against every indecisive nerve in my body, and buy it rather than just put it on hold.  The gal sent us to their most recommended fabricator down the street.  NOT impressed.  The guy who does the work was nasty on the phone while we stood there waiting and then chewed out an employee.  The receptionist took us to the warehouse because it was so awkward.  Bigger problem was that the samples were terrible.  We really don’t want an obvious seem across the front of the top.  So we left and went to another recommendation.  We told him what we wanted done to the stone we had just bought and I mentioned that originally we had wanted a thicker stone.  He said, “I have that right here.”  And he took us back through his warehouse to a beautiful remnant just the thickness we wanted…I feel like we hit the lottery seeing as we found the .1% marble remnant (unless that 99.9% was a little off.)  Anywho, we went back to where we bought the stone and I told her our experience was less than stellar.  She was ‘shocked.’  And guess who walked by as we were talking…the guy from the fabricator store down the street.  So maybe not the best fabricator…just the closest for free delivery.  We are happy with what we got though and it got even better…we picked up Erik from his friend’s house and had lunch at Chik-Fil-A!  I haven’t been to one in about 18 years.  It was good and I gave my germaphobia  a short break and let the kids play on the indoor climbing area.  Still a little sick about that since our carpool buddy told me on the way home today about a kid taking off his clothes on the slide at that store.

Nevermind, I have a countertop!

Image00018 Ryan did his state report on Thursday.  Harvey and I could not figure out why he picked Utah, and then Ryan told us it was because it was only four letters and he had to write a big title on the board…We actually learned a lot though.  It is a really beautiful state.  He had to act like a tourism rep and ‘sell’ his state.  He brought props and everyone loved that.  He put on ski goggles to talk about the resorts, a large dinosaur for the big museum…it was cute.  His school does A LOT of presentations.  This week the science fair project started.  His will be gross, but I think the kids will love it.

Got Shower?

It really happened!  I got to take a shower in my master bathroom.  It was great.  Clean, spacious, and private.  No pictures.  You’re welcome.

Ryan got to take the very first bath in the new tub.  He has been dreaming of this for six years…which is quite a long time when you are eight.

Unfortunately, this is what the kitchen looks like when I cook too.

Eating the moon

We finally finished our space unit.  It’s hard to do a lot since we have Erik’s school work from his other school.  What better way to end, but by learning about the moon and having a taste of it?

Soon, and very soon!

Look what’s in!  And they work!  They were a little tougher to get in than most…but that is not surprising in this bathroom.  We don’t have a shower curtain bar in yet, so I’ll have to put up a temporary one.  I get to use it tomorrow!  Next, Harvey is going to start on the closet.  As you can see off to the left, it needs some work.  So that is one less box in Megan’s room.  Once we get the sconces, medicine cabinet and mirrors (and our two dressers) out of her room, I can move this toddler bed out of my room.  It has become quite the storage container at the foot of my bed!  There is a chance this may get done before the 7 year mark!

The painting goes on

Here are Erik’s latest paintings.  I just love the bottom one.  It’s definitely one of my favorites.

Digging

The warm weather has kept the kids busy outside.  Harvey said the only way I am ever getting a pool is if I did it…but it looks like I might be able to get some cheap labor to help me out:

Always glad we put 12 tons of sand for them to sit by while they dig up all of the dirt.

A Door

For the first time since we moved in over six years ago…I have a door on my master bath!  I also have crown molding in the bathroom.  The first night we slept here it was so cold in our room (November) Harvey had to get up and get a heavy blanket and nail it to the door frame.  That lovely thing swayed from the cold air coming in from the hole in the roof for six years.  So back to the door, I was a little bummed when I found out that paint does not come next (since I bought the paint like four months ago.)  Next, Harvey has to figure out how he is going to do the little closet space.  I want shelves and drawers.  It’s pretty deep and also narrow.  The picture I gave him would be described as shallow and wide.  Oh well, keep that mind sharp!  He also has to build the casings for around the door.  That one is on him since he found the picture of a door that we both really liked.  He had to pick a 19th century farmhouse.  Anyway…I think you can pretty much add up that timeline.  But look at my door!
