Still Mixing

  I recruited some help yesterday…

Don’t be fooled by this lovely color!  It’s an optical illusion or something.

2010-08-19_001 A while back a friend of mine mentioned she had been reading my blog and said how perfectly homemakerish I was…So here is what it looked like under my couch this morning.  You know, to clear things up!  : )  I have a few more kitchen shots to further my point in the future.

This is my 5 year old…today is day three on the outfit (day and night).

So the paint color…

the lighting, both outdoor and from our fixtures, is a problem.  I have now added 2 1/2 cups of white paint to the paint and it is still looking crazy yellow on the wall.  So after three years of going with ‘let’s leave all of the fixtures as is until we get to redoing the whole room’ I am ready to start bringing them down.  But where to start?  I mean look at the competion:

Here’s your chance:

Which one is the worst?  Who goes first?

For the sake of my pride I will say that the boys have some good looking lighting going on:

So this is exactly what I wanted.  Unfortunately the real deal doesn’t look like this at all!  I am going to try adding more white tomorrow!

Not Too Bad

So scratch the line about the color being lighter than our sample!  Harv was home for lunch so we decided to paint while Erik took a nap.  While I was rocking Erik I heard Harvey mixing the paint.  Since we just got it I expected it to take a minute or too but it just kept going and going.  When I went into the kitchen he said that once he started  he noticed all of this yellow coming up.  So our soft, buttery, lovely yellow is not so soft, and buttery…but definitely YELLOW.    For about a half hour I loved it, but as the sun shifted it worsened.  Our friend dropped by and assured me it wasn’t “too bad.”  Not exactly the description I was going for.  Well, I guess I can knock ‘color specialist’ off my resume.  It took the steam out of finishing the painting tonight.  I’ll have to see what it looks like in the morning.  Maybe a new light fixture would help?  : )  The boys are all in bed so I’ll have to share a photo tomorrow.

Cute Ryan idea:

“Mom, do you want to take a picture of me with my special pillow so I can show my grandkids?”

Prime Time

I just finished putting a prime coat on the dining room walls.  It really showed how ugly the peachy color was.  Tomorrow night will be more fun with color.  I got sick of buying samples so I just started mixing the samples.  I came up with one we both really liked.  The color we got was a little lighter but we’re going with it.

Take Me Out to the Ballgame…

Ryan has been asking to go to a ballgame so we finally went to our local minor league game.  As we walked to the gate a guy behind us gave us four free tickets…yeah…that savings covered our hot dogs! : )  The boys did great.  The only PROBLEM, and it came and went all through the game (literally) was the mascot.  Aka a character! The discussion began in the parking lot…where would he be, would he come up to Ryan, would he chase us…then we saw him!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Oh my!

After the game the kids got to run around the bases.  Ryan loved it!

Okay, I’ll give him that the ‘character’ is hideous!

Kicked Out Again!!

Our cousins spent the day with us yesterday.  I was told I had to get my camera because they had made a track ‘worthy of my blog.’  : )

2010-08-14_003 We had a great backyard camp out.  The kids loved it.  It was fun hearing the little girls giggling in their tent before they fell asleep.  All of the kids slept great (except Erik) but the noise from the street was terrible.  Next year it’ll have to be at a quieter house!  It was real nice having a bathroom a few feet away and a nice warm house for a delicious breakfast.

A fancy breakfast, of which, I did nothing but partake! : )

Happy Campers!

2010-08-14_032

Erik got sent home (inside) again!  This time he was crazy excited…at 11pm he was still playing, kicking, laughing…so I scooped him up, handed him to Harvey inside, and went back to the tent where I got about two hours of sleep.

Feeling Blue…About Yellow

Okay, yellow is driving me crazy.  I can’t believe some of these paints actually go with the swatches.  The pictures don’t really show what they look like but imagine these samples on every wall.  I have to paint no matter what I decide.

Tonight is our first camp out in the back yard.  Erik is still iffy!

Not Quite!

I decided to check on our carrots…

IMG_0234  they’re not quite ready!

(cute though)

 So I walk away for a minute…

2010-08-12_004

So I’ve decided to paint the kitchen.  I want yellow…okay…I think it’s harder to pick than white.  So far I have three samples up and they all look terrible.  I’m back to the store tomorrow.

To my fellow granite floor owner:

I just vacuum and mop the floor to keep it clean.  I am thinking of getting a steam mop.
