A full heart

Megan loves the stroller.  The red one.  NOT the blue one!  She had two big cries today.  She was really mad.  Her world has been turned upside down and she had something to say about it.  Later in the afternoon, Harvey took all three kids for a walk and she was happy the whole time.  She was smiling and babbling again.  She ate a good dinner.  We ate dinner early and took another walk to the park.

On the mend

Megan has been sick with some cold/flu kind of thing the last couple of days.  She took two naps yesterday and went to bed for the night at 7:30.  Of course today was our first meeting with the social worker.  She did fine, but was kind of grumpy and tired.  She is so happy and smiley, so I wanted the social worker to see that.  She seems to be on the better side of it.  She ate a better dinner tonight.  Erik is now sick, but seems a little better off.  This is shortly after visiting the social worker:

Let’s Go Back

Before I can no longer remember our journey, I better go back and recount our trip home.  On Thursday morning Megan seemed to be feeling a little better.  She had slept most of the night and had held down all of her food, so we went down to the hotel buffet for breakfast.  She ate pretty well so we decided to take a short walk outside to get some fresh, humid air since we had been in the hotel room so much.

When we got back to the hotel she did not want to go back into the hotel room.  I think she thought that was her new home.  We decided to head to the airport even earlier since there was so much more to be distracted by there.  Harv walked her up and down the hallway while I packed things up.  Foster Mom was worried about the car ride, but she fell asleep within a few minutes and slept the entire trip.  Once we got into the airport it was clear that Harvey wasn’t going to be allowed to hold her.  We bought her ticket and checked in our bags.  Now we only had four hours to kill!  We decided to get something to eat.  After a few minutes sitting in the booth, the little girl next door popped up…like a little angel.  They started giggling and we got a first peek since having her of her happy personality.  After the little girl left, Megan crawled down off the seat and WALKED to the cashier with me.  That was the first time she had touched the ground for more than a few seconds since we left Foster Mom.  It was such a relief to see her start to perk up.

2012-07-25_028We found a little playground near our gate and she loved that.  Somehow the time passed.  When we got to our seats on the plane she started to cry.  The guy at the window seat gave ‘the look’.  But her crying only lasted a minute or two and other than the mistake of trying to have Harvey hold her for a little while, she didn’t cry again on the trip.  She slept for about eight hours!  Fortunately, after a couple of hours she unknowingly slept on Harvey most of the trip.  Once we got to the luggage carousel, Asiana brought us the stroller!  I took Megan into the bathroom so I could freshen up a bit and change her clothes.  She was not too happy until…she saw my make-up bag.  She was so happy to dig through that.  After that we washed hands and she wanted to walk all the way in her squeaky shoes to her waiting guests.  Up until we went into the bathroom I was really nervous about having people greet us at the airport, but she warmed right up to everyone.

Copy of 2012-07-26_004 I did not expect her to run right into Ryan’s arms and let him pick her right up.  I couldn’t even get my camera focused.

Be Warned

The post where I talk about poop and pee.  Consider this your warning!

So one of the tests we needed for our adoption paperwork was a urine test.  No sweat for Erik, just needed a bag and some tape.  No one, including the lab people, could give me any help on how to get a urine sample from a 21 month old girl who doesn’t speak English.  So on Tues. night I just sat Megan on the potty to see what she thought about that.  Well, she thought it would tickle Mommy to no end to just go ahead and pee.  I couldn’t believe it.  We high-fived, I did some sort of weird dance, and then I got some toilet paper, wiped her and threw it (the highly absorbent PAPER) in her potty.  I looked in the potty and sure enough it was all soaked up.  Seriously, I was sick about it.  On Wednesday I decided to give it another go.  The girl is an eating machine, but man it’s been tough to get her to drink.  I discovered that any cup that can cause a significant amount of flooding is acceptable so I started giving her a variety of such choices.  She ended up going on the potty 8-9 times during the day and I got the sample.  That night after she went pee I got her up and she sort of pushed my arm back, sat down, and then pooped on the potty.  I think she’s onto something.  I’m not going to push anything right now, I just wanted my sample, but she went again tonight.  Hopefully, this will continue to be easy when the time comes.

One Week

Can you believe we have had our little Megan for a whole week?  We had a pretty good night.  It’s about five hours in the crib and then a few more in bed with me in the morning.  We all had fun playing on the playset in the backyard this morning.  Megan loves the swing.

2012-08-01_019 Erik has been eyeing the hair bands for a while now.  He finally asked me to put one in.  That lasted only a few minutes, until he found out they kind of hurt.
