Gone to the Beach

Just got home from a trip to the beach.  It was Harv’s first time back in Santa Barbara since he graduated.  Things have a way of changing!

4-Square

Ryan and I had a nice visit at the school today.  It turned out to be a weird time for us to come but I could still get a feel for the school.  We arrived at 10:30 and went immediately to recess until 11:00.  The good part of that was watching how nice the kids were.  A third grader came up on his own and invited Ryan to play 4-square.  Ryan’s going to need some coaching in 4-square…but I loved seeing him play with the boys.  Fortunately I’m a pretty good 4-square player.  Being low to the ground has a few advantages!  When we went in they had spelling for about 35 minutes.  The teacher read a story for a few minutes and then they had lunch.  The teacher had to cover someone unexpectedly during lunch so I didn’t get a chance to talk to her very much.  Then we had to leave.  So I didn’t see much academically.  Since the other school is very academic it would have been nice to see what was going on here.  It is fairly different than the other 2 day a week school so we have a lot to think about.  It will probably take me until August!  Both schools would be good choices so I’m thankful for that.

So my new (used) computer which we have already taken in once is history.  So it seems the great deal we got was less than great.  Now if I don’t get in on the desktop before Harv gets to bed I can’t do my thing on the blog!

Tomorrow Ryan and I are going to observe another school where he would go two days and be home for school on the other days.  Right now that sounds like the right combo for us but both schools have some things that may not work like location…Hoping we can decide before August this year!

2011-05-06_035 It was Erik’s first game.  It was perfect since his nickname is ‘Willie’.  He did great.  He loved the train ride and did great at the park.  We got there early to get our statues and try to get a ball signed.  Ryan was next in line and Whiteside had to go in.  How could you leave a six year old standing there with a blank ball?!!  Ryan was a great sport and never mentioned it again.  I’m still bummed of course! (I’m mature like that.)  Erik slept from the 3rd inning until we got on the train.  We didn’t get home until 12:30am.  I think Erik will skip anymore night games until he gets a little older, but it was fun to go as a family.

2011-05-06_043 We celebrated Willie Mays’ birthday with 40,000 of his closest friends.  It was fun to go on a day celebrating one of baseball’s greatest players.  I don’t think Ryan will forget it.  He got a Willie Mays statue too.

Center of Attention

2011-05-05_005Erik is crazy for Legos these last few days.  Today he ran into the kitchen, “I made you a flag Mommy!”

2011-05-05_074The kids got to play on the big field today.  It was quite exciting to sit in the dugout and play on a real field.

2011-05-05_140 I looked over and Erik was entertaining the team.  Once they started laughing he sort of went crazy…

2011-05-05_144 I said ‘crazy’ and I meant it!

2011-05-05_145 Did I ever mention my kids love being dirty?

(that is dirt, not to panic anyone)

Nothing But the Best

We have three birthday (4 birthday kids) parties this week on top of Ryan’s.  Both of Ryan’s are drop-off parties…yeah!  We spent the morning shopping.  Otherwise it was a nice, warm, easy day.  Erik took a good nap and Ryan and I did school outside.  It’s been kind of boring around here.  I haven’t even taken pictures!  I pulled the camera out before dinner to liven up the post a little!  Harv called around 4pm to tell me he wasn’t coming home for dinner.  Some of his employees took him out for a prime rib dinner!  So I immediately cancelled the last minute trip to the store I was reluctantly planning.  Unfortunately, the fridge was a little bare.  So I whipped out some homemade pizza!  Nothing but the best, most nutritional dinners for my kids!  Ryan got a piece of bread with pizza sauce toasted in the oven and Erik got an English muffin with sauce AND cheese.  Like I said, nothing but the best here!  Ryan LOVED it.  I kid you not!  He asked for a second one.  All over it Buddy!  To top the dinner off (and relieve any tinge of guilt) they got a fruit smoothie too.

Party!

It was so cool and rainy at the beginning of the month that I decided to do Ryan’s party later.  It was really great to see Ryan have a party with a group of boys.  Most of our friends had girls when we had Ryan.  Last year was the beginning of the princess parties…He invited four boys he has met through baseball and a few from church.  The boys had a great time…I’m completely exhausted.
