Today

The boys have been doing great.  Ryan just loves Megan and always wants to be with her.  Erik is excited about her, but she is a hitter and he seems to bear the brunt of most of it.  He takes it personally and gets upset.  It’s just something we’ll have to keep working on…sort of like when he kept hitting me and I took it personally!

Giants update:

While we were gone Ryan went to a Giants game with one of his old coaches and his son.  He was a bit sad that he wouldn’t get to go early since Harvey couldn’t go…imagine his delight when the coach told him to be ready an hour before Harvey goes!  They were the first ones in line.  Ryan ended up getting his hat signed and a ball signed by Mr. Perfect himself, Matt Cain, Jeremy Affeldt, and Javier Lopez.  How will we ever top that?  Needless to say, things went pretty well here while we were gone!

2012-07-31_018 Look who took a long walk to the park with her Daddy!  She actually liked it and the stroller.

Doctor Visit

We just got home from the doctor’s for the adoption physical.  She weighs 27.8 lbs. and is 34 inches tall.  She didn’t even cry when she got her three shots.  They had to take her blood twice since her vein collapsed.  She was so good.  She cried a little, but kept high-fiving the nurses while they were taking the blood.

Last night I put her in the crib at 11pm and she woke up at 5am.  She didn’t cry but kind of whined a little.  I brought her in to sleep with me and she slept until 8:30.  That worked for me!

Last Night

Last night was definitely Megan’s hardest night.  She woke up after about an hour in the crib and cried that very sad grieving cry.  I rocked her for about an hour and a half and then I laid on the couch with her.  She was so tired but just couldn’t/wouldn’t go to sleep.  She would cry and then just lay there, and then cry again.  Her deepest sleep was when Harvey got home this morning around 7:30 and she slept until about 9:30.  She woke up with a smile and has been happy all day, just like she slept great.

I had planned to put up some photos but Harvey went to sleep before I could get to the other computer.  Hopefully tomorrow!  We’ll see how tonight goes!

Finally

Don’t you hate when you have been waiting forever for something special to happen, then it happens, and no one updates their blog about it?  I wish I could say I have been busy taking fabulous pictures but I’ve been way to busy making sure a little someone keeps out of trouble.  I still need to go back a little but I have to save that until I have a little more brain power.  Thurs. night and Friday Megan was pretty happy but would whimper a lot and want me to hold her.  She woke up Sat. morning and wanted me to hold her.  She didn’t want to play at all with the boys.  In the late morning Harvey took the boys to his work and Megan and I stayed home.  And then life as we knew it changed…the girl finally, after three days, pooped.  I tell you I’ve never seen anything like it.  The poop was normal, but she stood up and was a totally new girl.  Other than rocking her to sleep, I bet I haven’t held her altogether for more than 20 minutes.  From the moment she stood up she started smiling, laughing, and playing and hasn’t stopped.

2012-07-28_006We went and got new shoes for her and the boys yesterday.  I could not stand another squeak from the shoes she came home with.  I’m pretty sure that whoever invented squeaky shoes:

a.has never had children,

b.hates parents or

c. both a and b.

She is smiley

She loves to laugh

She is stubborn

She likes to feed herself

She just woke up so I’ll continue tomorrow…

HOME

I’ve been a blog slacker.  I keep meaning to put up some pictures and share life around here but I’m either holding MEGAN or trying to get something done.  We’re doing well, she is grieving but still sharing some smiles and playing with the boys.  She is sleeping in her crib right now so I’m going to make my bed and try to lie in it for as long as possible!

Coming Home

We just got back from breakfast and a little jaunt around the neighborhood.  Kimmy has held down two meals so hopefully the taxi ride and airplane ride will go okay.  I’m down to a short sleeved shirt and a long sleeved one.  The thought of putting on a long sleeved shirt right now makes me a little sick.  It’s cooler outside this morning than yesterday though.  So Kimmy likes french fries, rice, and watermelon for breakfast.  Balanced enough for me!  She fed herself, which was a good sign.

Last night went well.  Kimmy slept from 10-3:30 am.  She woke up and I walked her around for a few minutes and she went back to sleep for a few more hours.  She had a short nap before breakfast.  She still wants to be held all of the time.  She did finally stand on her own two feet for a few minutes at breakfast.  I think it’s going to be helpful for the flight, but I can’t wait to see her bustling around at home.

I’m ready to see my boys already!  We are going to head to the airport a little early since it’s getting hot outside and we’ve all had our fill of this tiny room.   Hopefully the airport will be a good distraction for Kimmy.  We have decided on a name, but of course you’ll have to wait until our arrival!

Tonight

So I called it on the waking up and finding us response.  She cried for a little while but that passed.  She has wanted to be held ALL day.  I am so happy that she lets both of us hold her and wants to be held close but it’s sad after seeing how crazy busy she was in the visiting room where she never stopped climbing up on the couch, in and out of the car…

She ended up throwing up everything she ate for lunch.  I should have brought a couple more shirts for all of us.  Hopefully her nerves will calm down and won’t need another clean up.  I walked her for a really long time and finally she let me sit down.  We all slept for a couple of hours.  When she woke up she ate a little and drank some water.  I sat her on my stomach while I laid on the bed.  I’m not sure if it’s a translation thing, but she’s not quite sure about my sense of humor.  She fed me puffs and loved my disappearing-reappearing puff trick.  It was my first smile.  I brought a few books and she sat through those pretty well.  I also brought some stacking cups and they were a huge hit.  I almost got a giggle.

It’s 11pm now.  Hopefully, she’ll get a good night’s sleep.  We’ll leave the hotel around noon.  Foster mom told us she hates the car, so our 45 minute drive to the airport shall be interesting.  I’m a little nervous about the flight.  I’m so excited to get home though.

She is so much bigger than I even guessed.  She feels at least as heavy as Erik but I know she’s not.  Her 2T jammies are so tight.  I think she’s going to want to walk a lot on the plane.  I hope she’s game for the Ergo because my arms won’t make it otherwise.

Back at the hotel

We woke up this morning pretty rested.  We got ready and packed up all of our gifts and decided to get some breakfast at Paris Baguette like we did last time.  It wasn’t too far of a walk but already by 8am it was warm and muggy.  I was super happy about being hot and sweaty for our first meeting!  While we sat and talked I mentioned meeting Erik’s foster mom.  That triggered the thought that I left her gift and Erik’s pictures he drew her at the hotel.  Awesome!  Fortunately, we still had some time so we headed back to the hotel.  I realized that I now had blisters on both heels from shoes I wear all the time.

Daddy got his little girl to sleep!  It’s always hard to see them cry and not yet be the one they want for comfort.  I’m pretty sure she’s going to be rather bummed to wake up and see that we’re still around!

Together

We are back at our hotel.  We had a wonderful visit with both foster moms.  Kimmy was cute and friendly with us at the agency.  The transition from foster mom and to the hotel went smoothly.  Once we got to our room Kimmy started figuring things out.  She wants to be held but cries every little while.  We are going to try for a nap and I’ll post some photos from this morning if/when the nap happens.

Today is the Day!

Well our stomachs overruled our other senses and we went out to eat last night.  We strolled around the neighborhood by our hotel.  It was hopping with young people.

Obviously, we are staying in a classy hotel!

Tempura leaves…taste exactly like you think a leaf would taste.

I took something to help me sleep and it worked!  The one hour I got the night we arrived for Erik did not work out very well last time.  Harv didn’t make it all the way through the night, but he fairs so much better than I do.

We’re off to find something to eat in about an hour and then we’ll head over to the agency!  Two and a half hours until we meet!

Looks like we made it

We just arrived at our hotel.  We met a nice couple from Oklahoma by the elevator.   They just picked up their little boy today.

We debated about bringing the stroller.  We finally decided on the way out the door to bring it.  Apparently, Asiana Airlines did not think we needed it and left it in San Francisco for us to pick up when we get back.  Hoping Kimmy is a fan of the Ergo!

Harvey has been up for about 25 hours so hopefully he can fall asleep.  He keeps talking about going to get something to eat and now he’s watching a Korean variety show…

Tomorrow morning we go to the agency at 9:30 and then meet Kimmy and Foster Mom at 10.

Off to sleep!

17 Hours

We leave in 17 hours!  Gramma and Grandpa will stay with the boys.  I know they will have lots of fun together.  I just thought of washing Kimmy’s crib sheet.  I don’t know when and if she’ll go in it, but it’s been collecting dust for a year!  Obviously, I was a little overly optimistic about when she would come home.  It’s still a little surreal that after all this time she is finally coming home.  She’ll be under our roof in four days!!  I’ll do my best to keep the blog updated with everything.  We will meet Kimmy and Foster Mom on Wed. morning (Tues. dinner time here).  We will also get to see Erik’s foster mom.  I made her a wonderful photo book with tons of pictures.  I would so love to bring Erik and see them together, but it just wasn’t possible this time.

Last of the lake:

2012-07-18_010Ryan LOVED the kayak.  Since we didn’t have time to go out on the big boat, it was great for him to go around the small cove.

Last minute…

One of my errands today was taking the boys to get their pictures taken before Kimmy comes.  I always make them pose for me when we get home since they are generally clean and wearing something without holes.

One Week

In one week we’ll be home together as a family of five!  I’ll probably be as tired as I am right now!  We just got home from a few days at the lake with my brother’s family.  Harvey had to stay home.  I’m down to three more chances of a good night’s sleep before we leave.  The boys had a great time and it helped move this long week along.  Now I have laundry up to my ears and lots of last minute things to get done.
